Health Careers Exploration Summer Camps
Each AHEC center offers a health careers summer camp for high school students in their region. The camp is geared toward students who think that they are interested in a health career. At the camp, students have an opportunity to learn more about different health career choices, touring hospitals, area college campuses, and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Students also have the chance to job shadow with health professionals in the clinic and hospital setting to learn more about the day-to-day work of nurses, doctors, pharmacists, physical therapists and other health care professionals.
The camps last 3-4 days, and students stay in the dormitory of the college hosting the camp, under the supervision of camp counselors.
Information about 2011 summer camps can be found on each AHEC's website.
